Obituary: Bernard Goldberg, age 84

Bernard Goldberg, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, January 06, 2016 at Middlebrook Farms in Trumbull, CT.

Mr. Goldberg was born in Gloversville, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Anna Goldberg.

He was a graduate of The University of Bridgeport, where he was an honorary member of the Knights of Thunder.

Mr. Goldberg was the former Director of the China Program for Textron Lycoming of Stratford, CT, formerly Avco Lycoming, where he was a part of the I.C.B.M. Program, (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile).

He was also an admired golf instructor for almost 20 years. Mr. Goldberg was a member of Congregation B’nai Torah of Trumbull.

Mr. Goldberg is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Miriam Goldberg, his devoted children, Josh Goldberg, Holly Shannon and her husband William, adored grandchildren, Brenna Goldberg and Liam Shannon.

Services will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016, at 9 a.m., from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road in Fairfield, interment followed at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin, NJ.

Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation B’nai Torah or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Harvey “Buzz” Merrick, 88, of Milford, owner and operator of the Merrick Agency, husband of the late Jeanne Pellegrino Merrick, died Jan. 8, in St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Born Aug. 9, 1927, in Boston, Mass. son of the late Kenneth Merrick and Edna Frances Foster Merrick; U.S. Navy, World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include a son, Steven Merrick and his wife, Lauren Kiss Merrick of Trumbull, a daughter, Dr. Christine Merrick of Dublin, Calif., a brother, George Merrick of Florida, and his nephew.

Services: Tuesday, Jan. 12, 11 a.m., Calvary Evangelical Free Church, 498 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Entombment will follow in the Garden Mausoleum of St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.

Nancy Shearer Rampino, 76, of Stratford, employed an administrator for the Remington Co. in Bridgeport and the Franzus Co. of Beacon Falls, wife of the late John D. Rampino Jr., died Jan. 8, at Bridgeport Hospital.

Born Sept. 23, 1939, in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Harry and Helen (Wargo) Shearer.

Survived by sons, John D. Rampino III and his wife, Georgette of Tennessee, Mark H. Rampino and his wife, Roberta of Ansonia, Steven G. Rampino of Naugatuck, Thomas D. Rampino and his wife, Maria of Shelton and Jeremy M. Rampino and his wife, Tatiana of Trumbull; a brother, Gerald Shearer and his wife, Lynn of Shelton; a sister, Patricia Pavia of Arizona; eight grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

Genevieve Sullivan Marr, 83, of Trumbull, died Jan. 9, at Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford, after a brief illness.

Born Oct. 5, 1932, in New York City, daughter of Beatrice (Flanagan) and Timothy Sullivan who originally emigrated from County Armagh and County Kerry, Ireland, respectively.

Predeceased by husband, James. W. Marr and three sisters, Catherine Duggan, Ann McAndrews and Mary Inbody.

Survived by brother, Walter Sullivan, of Florida, four children, James W. Marr Jr., John T. Marr (Colleen), Valerie Marr Theissen (Kieran), and Bruce T. Marr, and nine grandchildren.

Services: Tuesday, Jan. 12, 11 a.m., Christ the King Church in Trumbull. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Besides his wife, survivors include a brother, Donald Kasarda of Ormond Beach, Fla., two sisters, Cindy Isolda of Bridgewater, and Lori Kasich of Stratford and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Predeceased by his mother, Lorraine Dembrosky Tower and his father, Donald Kasarda Sr.

Rohan “Jim” Jacob, 56, of Trumbull, finance manager and worked with corporate strategy with Sikorsky Aircraft, husband of Denise M. Roman Jacob, died Jan. 9, at Bridgeport Hospital.

Born June 1, 1959, in Trivandrum, India, son of Chako and Achamma Cherian Jacob of India.

Besides his wife, survivors include two daughters, Becca Jacob and Beena Jacob, his dog Moshe, a brother, Abraham Jacob of India, and a sister, Elsa Nissan and her husband, Petter of Australia.

Predeceased by a brother, Cherry Jacob.

Audrey S. Allen Williams, 95, of Trumbull, worked for Co-operative Educational Services, wife of Raymond Williams, died Jan. 12, at home.

Born Dec. 29, 1920 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., daughter of the late Raymond and Sophia Hasley Allen.

Besides her husband, survivors include four children, Robert P. Williams and his wife, Nancy of Branford, Thomas A. Williams and his wife, Darlene of Fairfield, Virginia DeFeo and her husband, Michael of Trumbull, and Jeffrey R. Williams and his wife, Michele of Trumbull, eight grandchildren, a great-grandson and a brother, James Allen of Tonawanda, N.Y.

Born in Bristol, she attended the University of Connecticut and served as the director of media and public relations for Yale University School of Management.

She was predeceased by her mother, Charlene.

Survivors include her nieces and nephew, Karen Kier Levine and husband, Robert of Stratford and their son, Jared Levine, Judith Pawliszga of Milford, Patricia White and husband, Charles of Milford and Bryan F. Kier and wife, Maryann of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; also several additional grandnieces and grandnephews.

Also predeceased by two brothers, Arthur D. Kier and Karl F. Kier Jr.

Born March 10, 1931, in Bridgeport, son of the late John and Anna Chantlos Bakalar; U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Survived by children, Kenneth L. Bakalar and his wife, Marilyn of Trumbull and Susan B. Hogan and her husband, Steven of Lebanon, four grandchildren, his stepdaughter, Nancy Auger and her husband, Austin of California and two stepgrandchildren.

Born June 1, 1923, in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Arcangelo and Antonia Trombetta Mastronardi.

Survived by children, Charles G. McNeiece Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Narraganset, R.I., Catherine McNeiece of Trumbull and Mark McNeiece of Milford, a brother, Michael Mastronardi of Bridgeport and his companion, Mia Marks, a sister, Carmella  Marchetti of Bridgeport, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by a brother, Enrico (Rex) Mastronardi and a sister, Mary Salce.

Obituary: Nettie Shipman, of Norwalk

Nettie Shipman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 20th, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Stamford, CT on January 31, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William and Rhea (Gartenberg) Urmann.

She was a graduate of Stamford High School in Stamford, CT and NYU Stern School of Business in 1952. Upon graduation, she worked as a legal secretary in Manhattan and then, after marriage, moved to Morristown, NJ where she was an Administrative Assistant for Combustion Engineering.

She moved to Norwalk, CT in 1961 where she raised her family. She was predeceased by her best friend and husband, Stanley Shipman.

A resident of Norwalk for over 50 years, she was a member of Temple Shalom and a Life Member of Hadassah. She was also previously a member of the B’nai B’rith organization.

She was dedicated to her family and friends and enjoyed reading, politics and American history. Her wonderful sense of humor, quick wit and warm spirit will truly be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her son, Gregg Shipman and his wife Marci of Glastonbury, CT, her daughter, Roberta Tatulli and her husband Chris of Trumbull, CT, four grandchildren, Daniel, Michael and Andrew Shipman of Glastonbury and Zachary Tatulli of Trumbull.

Services will take place on Tuesday, January 26th at 11:00 AM at Temple Shalom, 259 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Burial will follow at the Independent Hebrew Society/ Temple Shalom Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth (Santo) Lee, 56, of Stratford, wife of Gary Lee, died Jan. 23, in Stratford.

Born in Bridgeport, April 7, 1959, daughter of Marion Santo and the late Andrew Santo.

She and her best friend since childhood, Beth Dattilo were the co-owners and operators of the Metro Diner, in Stratford Center, previously known as Mary & Beth’s.

Besides her husband and mother, survivors include her son, Patsy Horan and his wife, Rebecca of Trumbull; two brothers, James Santo and Andrew Santo; two sisters, Joanne Santo and Anna Borisov; two grandchildren, Abigail and Hadley; her best friend, Beth and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Verona, Italy, on Sept. 22, 1922 to the late Guiseppe and Guiseppina Bonvicini; U.S. Air Force, World War II.

Survived by four daughters, Mary Jane Maglione (Neil) of Salem, Mass., Joan Bonvicini  (Leah) of Seattle, Wash., Kathleen Bonvicini of North Haven, Sheila Olcott (John) of Milford, nine grandchildren, a great-grandson, his brother, Guido Bonvicini and his wife, Carol, and several nieces and nephews.

Also predeceased by his son, Thomas J. Bonvicini.

Survived by her children, Michael Crocker, Jane Sentocnik and her husband, Vid of Shelton, Kathryn LaRiccia and her husband, Mark of Milford, sisters, Irene Barbour of North Carolina and Edie Wilson of Florida, her oldest granddaughter, Maryjane Seymour and her husband, Allan of Trumbull, with whom Vivian resided as well as five grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
